White sapote has an edible green skin and looks like a misshapen baseball, with a yellow blush. The whitish flesh has a creamy texture with papaya and banana flavors. The tropical fruit is eaten raw most of the time. Mixed with milk or cream, white sapote blends well into smoothies, shakes or ice creams. It is also called Mexican custard or custard apple. White sapote is available from California and Florida in the spring and fall and from Australia other times of year.
