Jujube are also known as Chinese dates. They are round or oblong and range in size from the size of a cherry to a plum. They have shiny red-brown skin with white, pithy flesh. The fruit's apple-prune flavor varies from sweet to acidic, depending on the variety, and it is most often dried. Use the fruit as you would dates or raisins or add to baked goods like cakes and cookies. It is available June to December from California and year-round from Asia.
