Sales Strategies

Promote organic mangoes with other organic fruits and organic bagged salads. Include it in organ-ic tropicals promotions.

Create a salsa promotion around Cinco de Mayo and include organic mango in the promotion. Mango salsa is becoming more popular. Pair it with other organic ingredients. Include organic mangoes in winter holiday promotions as they make tasty chutneys and relishes that can grace the holiday table.

Promote organic mangoes to parents looking for a nutritious, sweet snack for their kids. Be sure to highlight the growing practices for organic mangoes.

Mangoes pair well with other items, including fruit salad items, melons, bagged salads and salsa ingredients.

Asian cultures often use unripe mangoes in chutney, relish and pickles. If you have a large Asian population that shops at your store consider carrying unripe fruit.

Dynamic Displays

The most commonly available organic mango is the ataulfo, but other varieties are often availa-ble. Remind consumers that different varieties of mangoes have different flavors. Use signs and sampling to educate consumers about the differences.

Include organic mangoes in an organic tropicals display. Include bananas, kiwifruit, pineapple and organic coconut on the display. Consider putting conventional tropicals at one end of the display and conventional tropical fruit at the other end. This creates a large, attention-drawing display and keeps the two types of product from intermixing.

Organic mangoes look sturdy, but they bruise easily. Avoid stacking them to keep them in great shape for the consumer.

Include information on your display about how to tell if a mango is ripe. Many consumers are unfamiliar with the fruit, so preparation tips are a good idea as well.
