With a projected Honeycrisp shortfall, retailers have a good opportunity to diversify offerings, said Joel Hewitt, CMI Orchards vice president of sales.
"Consumers are willing to pay a premium for higher-flavor, specialty options, and when shoppers demand more, branded organics deliver,” said Danelle Huber, senior marketing manager.
A smaller Honeycrisp crop provides ample opportunity for retailers to highlight high-flavor varieties such as SweeTango, Cosmic Crisp, Envy and more said the Wenatchee, Wash.-based grower, packer and distributor of tree fruit.
The TV star will join Envy at the inaugural Hallmark Christmas Experience to celebrate the "Sweetest Moments of Holiday Entertaining."
As Honeycrisp volume is down this year, SweeTango is a premium substitution and is primed for promotion, says Brianna Shales, marketing director for Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers.
