Whole Kids Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with Whole Foods Market, has given $500,000 to bring 150 salad bars to schools this year.

The foundation has donated nearly 5,500 salad bars to schools since 2011, according to a news release. Overall, the Salad Bars to Schools public-private partnership has raised more than $14.3 million and brought salad bars to more than 2.7 million children.

“Every salad bar gives kids access to fresh vegetables and fruit every day, which allows them to make healthy food choices,” Nona Evans, executive director and president of Whole Kids Foundation, said in the release. “We are so proud to be a part of the movement working to support a healthier generation of kids.”

Children with access to a salad bar eat three more produce, according to the release, which cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
