Reporters for Seattle-based GeekWire were some of the first to test the new AmazonFresh pickup service last week and they posted a vlog of the process for all of us to enjoy.
While it seemed very similar to some of the click and collect services I’ve tried across the country, I did notice that orders can be ready in as little as 15 minutes for AmazonFresh members. That’s a little faster than the several hours to full days’ notice you have to give some services. That capability is part of a $15/month add-on to an Amazon Prime membership. Prime membership is $99 annually, or $10.99 per month.
Todd Bishop, GeekWire co-founder and editor -- and the driver in the video, seemed to be thrilled with the process, even though he missed picking up his super-speed 15-minute order by five minutes because of traffic.
“I signed nothing, I entered nothing,” he said, in the video. “It really does extend that online ecommerce service to the real world.”
Bishop ordered granola, some “very nice looking apples,” meat and a few other items, noting the packaging was more like an in-store experience with the apples packed in produce bags. It also was less insulated than an AmazonFresh delivery order.
