Walmart has announced a pilot with self-driving vehicle company Nuro.
The pilot will be based in Houston, according to a news release.
“We’ve been test-driving a number of different options for getting groceries from our stores to our customers’ front doors through self-driving technology,” Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital operations for Walmart U.S., said in the release. “We believe this technology is a natural extension of our grocery pickup and delivery service and our goal of making every day a little easier for customers.”
Earlier this year, Walmart announced trials with autonomous vehicle companies Gatik and Udelv. In late 2018, the retailer announced autonomous vehicle pilots with Ford and Waymo.
“By continuing to test autonomous vehicle capabilities, we’re better able to understand the path self-driving technology can take us down the road,” Ward said in the release.
Kroger has also explored using Nuro autonomous vehicles for grocery delivery, first in Scottsdale, Ariz., and most recently in Houston.
