Thirty Walgreens stores in the New York metro area have started offering Chef’d meal kits.

Locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Forest Hills, Yonkers, Hoboken and Jersey City are part of a pilot program with the kits, according to a news release.

“The goal of Chef’d is to provide more meals in more places, offering quality meals conveniently to customers,” said JR Badian, chief marketing officer at Chef’d. “Getting into the drug store category helps us to reach a larger customer base who may not be familiar with meal kits. The drug store setting adds an extra layer of convenience allowing customers to get in and out of stores quickly.”

The Chef’d options at Walgreens stores include 20 Clove Garlic Chicken with Mashed Purple Potatoes and Spinach; Chicken Tikka Masala with Basmati Rice, Raita and Naan Bread; and Herb-Crusted Flank Steak with Roasted Potatoes, Sugar Snap Peas and Horseradish Cream Sauce.

In addition to being available online, Chef’d kits can be found at more than a dozen retailers in 27 states.

That list has included Hy-Vee, Costco, Tops Markets and Food Lion.

Chef’d saw its retail presence kick into high gear in late 2017, when it switched to new packaging that provided significantly longer shelf life.
