Pear Bureau Northwest is taking National Pear Month global.
December marks the 14th year the U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared a national pear month, kicking off Dec. 1 — World Pear Day. The pear bureau will be sampling USA Pears in different time zones.
Starting in New Zealand, at 2 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Pacific) on Dec. 1, pop-up sampling events will be in 24 countries, for a full day of events in India, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Mexico and other countries.
In the U.S., nearly 500 sampling events are scheduled, ending in Leavenworth, Wash., at an annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, according to a news release.
Across the globe, consumers can taste different varieties and participate in games and earn prizes. Online, social media channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) will allow consumers to participate through #WorldPearDay.
“In its third year, we see the event as an entertaining and compelling activity raising pear enthusiasm and consumer engagement worldwide at the pinnacle of the pear season,” Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest, said in the release.
Retailers can join in with a World Pear Day sampling event; see the USA Pears website for more details.
