Providence, R.I.-based UNFI featured the Moonlight, Mountain View and Prima Wawona brands in a series of stone fruit contests in the first half of July.
Each contest ran for two weeks and featured a single brand. Winners used grower-shipper boxes and other point-of-sale material to bring extra attention to their displays.
First place in the Moonlight contest – geared toward best display with the provided promotional kit – went to Star Market in Salinas, Calif., with Susanville Supermarket in Susanville, Calif., coming in second.


The Mountain View contest featured display and sales components. The winners of the sales contest reported huge volume growth compared to the same period last year.
- First place – New Grand Mart, Richmond, Va. (up 554%)
- Second place – Shoppers Food Warehouse, Millersville, Md. (up 314%)
- Third place – Compare Foods, Baltimore (up 207%)
Winners in the display component of the Mountain View contest were Ahart's Market in Blakeslee, Pa., in first place, Henning's Supermarket in Harleysville, Pa., in second place, and PJP Marketplace in Philadelphia in third place.



Major year-over-year volume increases were also reported by stores that placed in the sales component of the Prima Wawona contest.
- First place – Honest Weight Food Co-op, Albany, N.Y. (up 32 cases)
- Second place – Fruit Center/Hingham, Hingham, Mass. (up 25 cases)
- Third place – GreenStar Food Co-op, Ithaca, N.Y. (up 24 cases)
For the display contest, first place went to Market on Kent in Brooklyn, N.Y.; second place went to A Matter of Health Rockland in Nanuet, N.Y.; and third place went to Green Life Market in Newton, N.J.
