The New York State Department of Agriculture partnered with Tops Friendly Markets last weekend for a local produce-centric event called the Amaize-ing Corn Boil.

Four stores hosted shoppers for family-focused activities, giveaways and sampling of New York products, according to a news release.

“Local farms bring Tops their freshest homegrown fruits and vegetables, so you bring home the best to your family while supporting your neighbors,” director of produce and floral Jeff Cady said in the release. “Produce picked today can be on your table tonight, so when we say local, we mean it.

“Our local produce is grown on farms and orchards with generations of growing experience, so you'll always get the highest quality for your family,” Cady said. “It's inspected by experts you can trust, and when it arrives in store you know that it is at the peak of perfection.”

Amaize sweet corn was one of the featured products at the event. It will be in stores through the end of next week, said public and media relations manager Kathy Sautter.

The corn is sourced from Eden, N.Y.-based Eden Valley Growers and Baldwinsville, N.Y.-based Reeves Farms.

“Tops is a great partner,” Karin Reeves, sales manager and partner in Reeves Farms, said in the release. “We have sold produce to several of their stores for over 25 years. We really appreciate their commitment to local produce and New York State farms.”
