Three more Giant Heirloom Market stores to open in Philadelphia

Giant Heirloom Market is coming to three more Philadelphia neighborhoods — University City, Northern Liberties and Queen Village.

The news comes on the heels of the opening of the first location of the new format, in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood, on Jan. 25.

“Giant Heirloom Market is the next chapter in our innovative growth story,” Nicholas Bertram, president of Giant Food Stores, said in a news release. “The response to our first location in Graduate Hospital has exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be more excited about the future of our Giant Heirloom Market brand.

“Equally as important, today's news also supports Giant's commitment to the city of Philadelphia and the people who call it home,” Bertram said. “We can't wait to introduce our Giant Heirloom Market concept to more of the city's unique and treasured neighborhoods.”

The University City location at 3401 Chestnut Street will open this summer, the Northern Liberties store at 1002 North Second Street will open in the fall, and the Queen Village location at 201 South Street will open by the end of the year.

The University City location is between Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, so the store there will focus on offering fresh, convenient food options to students, faculty, administrators and others.

All of the new Giant Heirloom Market stores will have a smaller footprint than the traditional Giant store and will have a produce chef, a sampling station, and a focus on fresh and local offerings. Once three more Giant Heirloom Markets are operational, Giant will have five stores in the city of Philadelphia.
