Can a grocery store offer solutions to seemingly almost every errand that a household needs accomplished — with an extensive produce department as well?

Hy-Vee Inc. is trying it out, with a “totally reimagined grocery store” with a new layout, the sixth of its kind for the retailer’s eight-state footprint, according to a news release.

The grocery retailer has opened two new stores in Wisconsin, expanding its footprint in the state to eight stores. The Janesville, Wis., store is the highlight, with more than 3,500 fresh produce items, including 120 organic items.

And then there’s another new store in Oregon, Wis., which is the former Bill’s Food Center.

Hy-Vee Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 285 retail stores across eight Midwestern states, with sales of more than $13 billion annually.

Janesville store

The more than 97,000-square-foot store in Janesville includes all-digital shelf labels that display product information and pricing. There will be more than 50 TVs that feature Hy-Vee products, promotions and services. Digital kiosks are also available for shoppers to order cakes and fresh prepared foods, as well as access offerings via Hy-Vee Financial Services.

The store will feature new mobile payment technology with Hy-Vee Scan & Go, as well as self-checkout options available for a faster, more convenient shopping experience.

Other amenities include Hy-Vee Aisles Online pickup and delivery, mothers room, dry cleaning and postal services.

A large, open food hall dining area will offer fast-casual dining, which includes Hy-Vee’s expanded breakfast menu; a pub with full-service bar including 32 taps and outdoor patio; mealtime offerings; Mia Italian; HyChi and Hibachi; Nori Sushi; Market Grille; Long Island Deli; and a Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee.

The store still has its typical Hy-Vee amenities: full-service bakery, delicatessen, meat counter; seafood counter and an expanded HealthMarket department featuring a larger selection of vitamins and sports nutrition options. There will be the large fresh produce area, an in-store Starbucks, expanded floral and gift shop departments, a Hy-Vee wine and spirits department and a pharmacy with a drive-up window.

Plus, expect Joe Fresh clothing, a Pair Eyewear kiosk, DSW footwear, a beauty department and an expanded Candy Shoppe.

Hy-Vee has invested more than $27 million in the community to build, furnish and stock the grocery store, according to the release.
