To learn how The Giant Co., Carlisle, Pa., gears up for the big game with fresh produce, The Packer recently connected with Director of Produce and Floral Chris Keetch.
What are your big produce sellers around the Super Bowl?
Keetch: Grab and go items like store-made fruit and vegetable trays and pre-cut vegetables are convenient, popular hosting options. Around the Super Bowl, other popular commodities include pistachios, peanuts, avocados, celery, baby carrots, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower and other ingredients customers incorporate when building their own vegetable platter.
Dips, dressings and guacamole are great accompaniments for any party and see increased demand leading up to the Super Bowl.
Can you share some examples of merchandising around the big game?
Several displays and additional merchandising will be in place to accommodate high-volume items, including items that provide customers with convenient solutions for their event needs.
Display examples include shipper or case stack displays of avocados, snacking tomatoes and peppers, as well as expanded in-set space with incremental displays (i.e. spot coolers) to provide convenient, accessible hosting options through entertaining by Giant.
Does Giant Co. partner with produce companies on Super Bowl-themed displays?
Yes, we accompany aggressive programs with display vehicles, such as bins and shippers, to ensure proper merchandising of in-demand items. We also strive to inspire shoppers through usage suggestions and product attributes at point of sale.
