Valencia, Calif.-based Sunkist Growers has launched "The Official Orange of American Summers" campaign to celebrate the exclusive California-grown orange variety this time of year.
As part of the program, Sunkist is offering a new, 8-pound combo bag and matching display bin spotlighting summertime vibes, according to a news release.
“Healthy eating is still top of mind for consumers,” Christina Ward, senior director of global marketing at Sunkist, said in the release. “Forty percent of citrus shoppers are trying to eat healthier and 35% are focused on getting more vitamin C. Sunkist Valencia oranges are high in vitamin C and perfect for juicing and ‘fruitcuterie’ board presentations — a refreshing, flavorful and nutritious way to celebrate the summer holiday.”
Valencias are a summer orange mainstay available now through October, with peak availability in July, the release said. Additional summer citrus offerings include California star ruby grapefruit available now through July, marsh ruby grapefruit available July through October, and lemons available year-round, the release said.
“Back-to-school shopping starts as early as July,” Ward said in the release. “We wanted to make the experience bright and fun, just like our citrus. With that said, Sunkist will be hosting a sweepstakes giving eligible citrus fans an opportunity to win a Sunkist back-to-school prize package valued at $3,000 and perfect for students of all ages.”
The sweepstakes runs July 6 through Aug. 5, where one potential winner will receive a prize package with Sunkist-branded items, including a backpack, lunchbox, thermos and various school supplies; a Chromebook; and a Visa gift card. One winner will be selected by random drawing from all entries received, according to the release.
