Stop & Shop, the parent company of which is Ahold Delhaize, has agreed to purchase King Kullen Grocery Co., which includes 32 King Kullen stores and five Wild by Nature stores.
The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019, according to a news release. The transaction also includes the use of the King Kullen Grocery Co. corporate office in Bethpage, N.Y.
“King Kullen is a well-respected grocery chain in the Long Island market that has an 88-year tradition of excellent customer service,” Mark McGowan, president of Stop & Shop, said in the release. “We look forward to bringing our quality, selection and value to more communities in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.”
It is not yet known whether the stores being acquired will continue to operate under their current banners or become Stop & Shop locations.
Jennifer Brogan, director of external communications and community relations for Stop & Shop, said the company will evaluate the stores and make decisions in the near future.
