Why order takeout at a restaurant when you can get it possibly fresher and less expensive at the grocery store?

That's the thought behind the latest move by the ShopRite of Riverside and the ShopRite of Howard Park, both operated by Klein's Family Markets, based in Forest Hill, Md.

The grocery retailer is debuting Fresh to Table, a store-within-a-store where shoppers can find fresh, on-trend foods, easy-to-prepare ingredients and meal solutions in grab-and-go formats, according to a news release.

“The combination of wholesome, seasonal fresh foods and state-of-the-art technology is designed to help our customers find a wide variety of balanced meals in a convenient format,” Klein's Family Markets Owner-Operator Marshall Klein said in the release.

These two ShopRite locations are operated by Klein's Family Markets, which joined the ShopRite banner in March 2009. The company operates nine ShopRite stores in Maryland. ShopRite is the registered trademark of Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative based in Keasbey, N.J. One of the largest supermarket cooperatives in the U.S., Wakefern has hundreds of ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.

Fresh to Table reinvents traditional produce and fresh food departments, providing more high-quality options for shoppers looking for a one-stop shop experience. Customers can choose:

  • Prep & Eat: ready-to-cook items.
  • Heat & Eat: ready-to-heat and serve items.
  • Grab & Eat: ready-to-eat meals.

The multipurpose space also features new foods from ShopRite's private-label lines, including the supermarket's award-winning Bowl & Basket and Wholesome Pantry products.

These two stores are the most recent to roll out Fresh to Table. Klein's Family Markets also offers it at four other locations in Forest Hill, Aberdeen, Festival and Jacksonville.

Klein's Family Markets are set apart by offering Maryland-style seafood offerings and recipes, curated by ShopRite chefs and registered dietitians, in its Fresh to Table departments.

The supermarket's branded line of Klein's Signature items changes seasonally, and customers can enjoy other Klein's signature favorites year-round. Also, shoppers can access Fresh to Table meals, snacks and produce through the store's online grocery service.
