ShopRite will host a May 8 grand opening for its newest store with a community celebration and ribbon cutting.

With a day filled with festivities, attendees can enjoy food trucks and in-store sampling stations at the grand opening of the 93,000-square-foot supermarket at 6781 Hadley Road in Hadley Commons Plaza, South Plainfield, N.J., according to a news release. The first 200 customers on line for the store opening will also receive special grocery gift bags filled with product samples and coupons, the company said.

“Opening a new store is always a big moment for us because it represents our commitment to provide fresh, quality products and exceptional service in a state-of-the-art store,” Rick Saker, senior vice president of Saker ShopRites, said in the release. “We’re excited to welcome our customers to this new location and are kicking it off with a great celebration that will include special store happenings throughout the month of May.”

Community leaders will join the Saker family, which owns and operates the new store, and their retail teams for the 7 a.m. ribbon cutting, the release said. At 10:30 a.m., the family will present the Community FoodBank of New Jersey with a donation and food trucks, and vendors Tru Fru Food, Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will arrive in the parking lot to offer free samples to shoppers.

Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will be grilling treats on site and offering customers a chance to enter a raffle for a new Weber Grill, the release said. The ShopRite of Hadley Commons is also offering people the chance to win a $100 ShopRite gift card, the company said. For more information on the contest, visit the store’s Facebook page.

The new ShopRite will offer a wide selection of groceries including locally sourced foods and fresh produce, as well as popular national brands and its Bowl & Basket, Wholesome Pantry and Paperbird private-label lines, according to the company.

The store will also feature an expanded line of international foods and dishes including Southeast Asian specialties, and Kosher and Halal products.

In addition, the store will offer a Saker ShopRites World Class bakery with special occasion cakes and freshly made bread, an extensive meat department with trained butchers, a seafood department with daily, fresh catch deliveries, a floral shop, a full-service deli department, and prepared foods department featuring Saker ShopRites’ own World Class Kitchens and specialty Dearborn Farms brands, a pharmacy and more, the release said.

ShopRite’s online shopping service, Order.Pickup.Deliver., will also be available at the new location.

ShopRite of Hadley Commons is owned by Saker ShopRites, a family-owned company made up of third- and fourth-generation grocers with stores in Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset and Mercer counties.

The supermarket said it expects to hire an additional 200 full- and part-time employees ahead of the store’s opening. Interested candidates can visit the store's hiring center to fill out an application or apply online.

The new store will replace the existing ShopRite of Piscataway, at 1306 Centennial Ave., which will close Tuesday, May 7, at 6 p.m., the release said.
