Schnuck Markets Inc. says it has been recognized as one of "America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024" by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group.
This survey of over 220,000-plus individuals included representation at over 1.5 million companies in the U.S., according to a news release.
“Diversity is a widely discussed topic — and it remains a crucial factor as people look for an employer or a business partner,” Nancy Cooper, global editor and chief of Newsweek, said in the release. “Newsweek and market-data research firm Plant-A Insights are proud to introduce ‘America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024,’ highlighting companies that are committed to offering a diverse and inclusive work environment.”
In 2020, Schnucks launched a comprehensive diversity, equity and inclusion plan, Unity Is Power. Internally UIP is focused on creating a workplace where all teammates regardless of background are welcome and feel valued, while externally, it focuses on efforts to increase community support for organizations and vendors that promote racial equity, the company said. Last year, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis honored Schnucks with the Civic Leadership Award for these efforts, according to the release.
“Our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are more than just words on paper. It’s how we celebrate our differences and learn from each other’s experiences and how we serve the numerous communities in which we operate,” Emma Lumpkins, senior director of diversity, equity and inclusion for Schnucks, said in the release. “It’s also nourishing people’s lives by providing a welcoming work environment to our nearly 12,000 teammates whose efforts make it possible for our customers to feed their families.”
Schnucks says it also recently launched a diverse-owned business accelerator program, Schnucks Springboard, to provide education, resources and access to local diverse-owned businesses.
