For the seventh consecutive year, Schnuck Markets says it is supporting the Folds of Honor Foundation through a Round Up at the Register campaign taking place at all Schnucks stores throughout the Midwest.
Folds of Honor is a nonprofit organization that honors the sacrifices of fallen and disabled military veterans and first responders by providing educational scholarships to their spouses and children. Last year’s efforts raised $300,000, which funded 60 scholarships, according to a news release. Since 2018, the Schnucks and Folds of Honor Round Up at the Register has raised $5.35 million — enough to support more than 1,000 scholarships.
Schnucks customers can contribute to Folds of Honor at checkout May 15-28 by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar. Customers who use self-checkouts and wish to give may choose a $1, $3 or $5 Scan and Give option, the company said. Schnucks Rewards members also have the opportunity to donate their rewards points to Folds of Honor as part of the Donate Your Rewards program.
“Folds of Honor remains one of our strongest community partners because of their dedication to helping the families of fallen and disabled military and first responders in the areas we serve,” Schnucks chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck said in the release. “We thank our generous customers who, each year since 2018, have rounded up at our checkouts and have joined us on our mission to nourish people’s lives throughout the Midwest.”
Folds of Honor was established in 2007 after Maj. Dan Rooney, a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, saw the grieving family of a fallen Army corporal meeting their loved one’s flag-draped coffin on an airport tarmac. The 501(c)3 has awarded more than 52,000 scholarships to military and first responder spouses and children, the release said.
"We deeply appreciate the unwavering support of the Schnuck family, their dedicated teams and the loyal customers who participate in the Round Up at the Register campaign. Each time a Schnucks teammate invites a customer to 'round up for Folds of Honor' and the customer agrees, it significantly impacts the lives of local military and first responder families,” Doug Mitchell, Folds of Honor St. Louis board of directors president, said in the release. “Our commitment is to ensure that all qualified applicants are supported, which includes 254 legacy recipients as well as an additional 37 applicants who did not receive scholarships last year due to a lack of funding. With the continued partnership of Schnucks, we are dedicated to leaving no military member or first responder family behind."
