Raley's has hired Yvette Waters as its nutrition strategist and brand influencer.
In her new role, Waters will lead nutrition strategy for all brands, support employee education on products and their nutritional content, create consumer education material, attend community events and serve as an ambassador for the company, according to a news release.
Waters previously helped develop Raley's store concept Market 5-ONE-5, which aims to serve shoppers looking to know where their food comes from and who put an emphasis on eating healthy. The focus points for the store are organics, nutrition and education (ONE).
For that project, Water determined category standards and selected what products would be in the store, which is a smaller format.
Waters has worked as a dietitian for the University of Nevada and for the Nevada Diabetes Association. She believes in personalized nutrition and helping people find their own version of healthy, per the release.
“As Raley’s strives to make healthy options accessible to all, Yvette is a proven dietitian who will help guide our organization,” Raley's president Keith Knopf said in the release. “Her knowledge and expertise will enhance our nutrition strategy. She will play an integral role in improving the education and nutritional value of our relaunch of Raley’s private label products, including our clean deck line, Raley’s Purely Made.”
The company is one of many retailers making an investment in helping consumers reach their health goals. Midwest grocer Hy-Vee recently opened its new HealthMarket format and announced the start of weekly dietitian-led store tours focused on nutrition.
