Big promotion opportunities exist for the 2024-25 potato crop.
Despite lower production in some states, the USDA reported shipping point prices for potatoes were similar to a year ago in late November.
In Idaho, the USDA reported that Nov. 29 prices for 50-pound cartons of 80-count russet potatoes were $10 to $12 per 50-pound carton, compared with $10 to $12.50 per carton a year ago. For 40-count russets, the USDA reported Nov. 29 prices in Idaho were $9 to $11 per carton, down from $13 to $13.50 per carton the same day a year ago.
The USDA reported baled 10 5-pound film bags, non-size A, were priced at $8 to $9 on Nov. 29, up from $7 to $8 at the same time last year.
In central Wisconsin, the USDA reported that size A round red potatoes in 10 5-pound film bags were $14.50 to $16.50 per carton on Nov. 29, similar to $14 to $15.50 per carton the same time a year ago.
The USDA reported that 10 5-pound film bags of size A Wisconsin yellow potatoes were $13 to $17 on Nov. 29, slightly off from $14 to $18 the same day a year ago.
Wisconsin size 60 russet norkotahs were priced at $12 to $15.50 per 50-pound carton, up from $11 to $13 per carton the same time a year ago.
In the Red River Valley of Minnesota and North Dakota, the USDA reported Nov 29 shipping point prices for round red size A potatoes in 10 5-pound bags was $14 to $16 per carton, up from $12.50 to $14.50 the same date a year ago.
The USDA reported U.S. domestic shipments of potatoes the week of Nov. 17-23 totaled 4.34 million 50-pound cartons, up 2% from the previous week and up 65% from the same week a year ago.
