Produce Perspective — Stone Fruit Season Update

by Ashley Nickle, Aug 13, 2019

Brianna Shales, communications manager for Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers, stopped by The Packer’s offices recently and provided an update on the stone fruit season.

“This year in particular we had a later spring, so I think that really cool winter and later cold helped the fruit develop really strong flavors, so we’re seeing higher brix levels, or sugar levels, in the fruit, which makes for an awesome eating experience,” Shales said.

Volume and sizing are on par with previous years, she noted. Stemilt began harvest in mid- to late July and will continue through mid- to late September.

The company is in peak volume weeks now and there is still time for promotions, Shales said.
