Packer Insight — Could the Dirty Dozen be an opportunity for the industry?

by Ashley Nickle, Mar 22, 2019

The Packer's editor-in-chief Tom Karst and Produce Retailer editor Ashley Nickle discuss one of the big stories of the week, the annual release of the "Dirty Dozen" list by the Environmental Working Group.

Tom and Ashley discuss industry perspectives on the list, which causes consumer buzz each year by decrying certain commodities for pesticide residue levels, even though the USDA and EPA consistently affirm that produce is safe.

They also consider whether the Dirty Dozen might present an opportunity for the industry to tell its story around the place of pesticides in produce. More on that in Ashley's column here.

Here's more Dirty Dozen coverage from this week — our first rundown of the list, industry perspective on it, and a take from Tom.
