The New York Apple Association is sponsoring a holiday extravaganza display contest for retailers.

The association is asking participants to focus on the fruit’s flavor and health benefits, as well as the number of varieties available from the Empire State.

“From cross-merchandising New York baking apples with holiday recipe ingredients to building large fresh apple cider displays to apple pairings with cheeses and dips, there are so many ways to display New York apples during this festive season,” according to the association’s web page on the contest.

The contest runs Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, and the grand prize winner can choose a trip for two to Niagara Falls or Lake Placid. Second place earns $500, third place $350, fourth place $300 and fifth place earns $250. Five honorable mention recipients will receive $100 each.

Winners will be announced Jan. 25.

The contest is open to retail chain stores, independent retailers and military commissaries throughout the U.S.

The apple association suggests displays should be in prominent locations and feature a variety of packaged and bulk offerings, with numerous serving suggestions on how to enjoy the apples.

Entries can be mailed or e-mailed to the association. For more information, see http://www.nyapplecountry.com/industry/holiday-extravaganza-retail-display-contest.
