New York Apple Association offers new poly bag options, retail contest

by Tom Karst, Dec 03, 2019

The Fishers, N.Y.-based New York Apple Association is kicking off the holiday season with new poly bags and a big holiday retail display contest.

The high-graphic three-pound and five-pound poly bag design features an image of a modern apple orchard and the Apples from New York logo, according to a news release. The bag design is set off by red, gold or green bands that stretch across the bag.

“We have had favorable comments from retailers about the poly bags and they appreciate the color breaks provided by the different colored bands,” Cynthia Haskins, president of the New York Apple Association, said in the release. “The bags also match the graphics on our display shippers and price signs.”

The association is also running its second annual Holiday Extravaganza Retail Display contest, according to the release. All retailers are invited to participate in the contest, and multiple cross-merchandising opportunities are available.

To participate in the contest, a retailer must take photos of the store display and submit the photos by email to [email protected], according to the release. Grand prizes include three first-place $500 gift cards, five second-place $250 gift cards, and ten third-place $100 gift cards.

The contest runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.

To celebrate its 25 years serving apple growers, the New York Apple Association also is sharing 25 apple recipes with consumers, according to the release.

The collection of recipes includes five each for apple-themed breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and holiday options. The recipes will appear on the association’s social media platforms and also will be provided to retailers to use with their social media promotions, according to the release.

In addition, how-to recipe videos from one to three minutes in length are being made available to retailers to engage consumers on their social media platforms.

NYAA also has partnered with Fexy Media, a Seattle-based media company, to line up a second wave of recipes for this season including apple recipes for holiday parties. The recipes will be featured on Simply Recipes, highly-rated family and cooking blog, according to the release.
