New Product Preview — Fresh-cut peaches, tomatoes, packaging and more

by Ashley Nickle, Oct 09, 2019

Produce Retailer editor Ashley Nickle and The Packer's designer and copy editor Amelia Freidline tested out more than a dozen new products that will be featured at Fresh Summit, and this report focuses on the first four items in the group.

In this special episode of Millennials Eat, Amelia and Ashley check out a new sustainable clamshell and dry pint tray from Warren Packaging; fresh-cut peaches under the Prima label from Gerawan Farming; red cherry on-the-vine tomatoes from NatureFresh; and greenhouse strawberries from Del Fresco that are certified as pesticide free.

Warren Packaging sent for review its 16-ounce clamshell and dry pint tray, which are 100% recyclable, compostable, biodegradable and plastic free, according to the company. Graphics, vent holes and sizing are all customizable.

NatureFresh provided its red cherry on-the-vine tomatoes, which the company describes as perfectly round and remarkably flavorful. New top-seal packaging in black and gold, with windows for product visibility, is designed to convey the product as a premium item.

Gerawan sent its fresh-cut peaches, which come in a number of pack sizes, available for both retail and foodservice. The product is one that taps into the growing demand for produce items that provide convenience and portability.

Del Fresco sent its greenhouse-grown Yes!Berries, which are certified pesticide free. That certification, which is called out on the packaging, is expected to be a draw for the many consumers paying more attention to what goes into their food during the growing process.
