Greenhouse grower NatureFresh Farms is introducing a mid-sized light-skinned cuke as Unveiled Mini Cucumbers.
The unique cucumbers offer a new look in the category, according to NatureFresh, which describes the variety as a thin-skinned cucumber that delivers a crunch.
Matt Quiring, executive retail sales account director at NatureFresh, said retailers search for innovation and new ways to drive category sales. Most of the company’s seed variety research to fulfill that goal has been focused on tomatoes.
“When our discovery team first saw the Unveiled Mini Cucumber, we were attracted to the unique complexion of the product, however after tasting it, we knew instantly that there was something more to it than just looks and wanted to take this variety to the next level and go to market,” Quiring said in a news release.
NatureFresh, Leamington, Ontario, emphasizes its research and development work, trialing different vegetable varieties to catch the attention of customers, and ultimately, consumers.
“As a company that seeks to develop new products in produce categories, NatureFresh Farms believes there continues to be tremendous growth potential for retailers in North America on the entire cucumber segment,” according to the release.
