Purple Carrot, a Boston-based plant-based meal kit provider, revamped packaging to make it 100% compatible with curbside recycling.

“We’re incredibly proud of our leadership role in introducing new, environmentally-friendly packaging components for our meal kits,” says Andy Levitt, founder and CEO, in a news release. “Given the urgency of addressing significant environmental issues we all face, we encourage other meal kit companies to invest in sustainable packaging solutions to help address this industry-wide issue.”

As part of the initiative:

  • Boxes are 95% post-consumer material
  • Ice packs are 100% water-filled, with recyclable film
  • Insulation is made of 95% recycled cellulose fiber paper.

Purple carrot made news in early May after securing a $4 million investment from Coral Gables, Fla.-based Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc.
