Mastronardi Produce, a fourth-generation, family-owned company greenhouse grower, has launched Bahama Bombs, its latest Sunset Bombs product in retail.

A bright orange grape tomato on-the-vine, Bahama Bombs are a sister variety to Sugar Bombs, boasting a sweet flavor and vibrant tropical hue, the company says. Mastronardi Produce introduced the new product at the Southeast Produce Council's Southern Innovations trade show in Tampa, Fla., and it hit store shelves in March.

“Mastronardi Produce has a long record of driving growth across categories through expert innovation, and snacking tomatoes are our specialty,” Dean Taylor, vice president of business development at Mastronardi Produce Ltd.,  said in a news release. “Sugar Bombs have been wildly successful since their launch in 2018; we’re confident that Bahama Bombs will bring excitement to the category.”

On-the-vine tomatoes represent the fastest growing segment of the snacking tomato category, the company says. Now with six flavorful SKUs to its name, the Bombs lineup continues to tap into the demand for high-flavor snacking items, the release said.

Mastronardi Produce and its Bombs line were recently highlighted by The Wall Street Journal in an article exploring the world of “designer produce.”

“This special sister variety was developed in collaboration with a valued seed company partner, and we knew we had a winner when they presented us with this variety,” Dean said. “Mastronardi Produce’s investments in [research and development] along with our partner relationships that span several decades are key to what sets us apart.”

Mastronardi Produce has over 1 million square feet of global trial space dedicated to research and development, with approximately 500 promising new varieties from around the world on trial at any given time, the release said. The company says Bahama Bombs performed exceedingly well under trial.

Retailers are invited to “Taste the Tropics” at booth No. 1130 during the upcoming Canadian Produce Marketing Association Convention and Trade Show in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Mastronardi Produce will showcase Bahama Bombs and other premium produce innovations.
