The Packer’s Editor Tom Karst spoke Sept. 30 with Don Goodwin, founder of GoldenSun Insights about the firm’s transition to new owners Jason Fuller and Randy Riley and the extent of his continuing role with the company.
“I’m excited for Randy and Jason and how they will take the company forward,” he said. “I’ve owned it for 16 years, and we’ve been very successful company and continued on a really good growth pattern; I think those guys are going to do a great job,” Goodwin said, noting he will stay involved with the firm on a part-time basis.
Goodwin also talked about his observations about how he growth of grocery e-commerce and how online shopping trends will influence the future look and feel of brick-and-mortar grocery stores.
“In most cases, one of the things we’re going to see over the next 10 or 15 years is the continual shrinking of the store,” Goodwin said.
The positioning of produce items within the context of an platform online can be critical to its e-commerce sales, Goodwin said.
“We’re working with some retailers right now on behalf of our clients studying and testing a lot of different strategies to improve e-commerce sales for our products, and what we’re finding is that a lot of the category managers yet aren’t fully engaged in (e-commerce),” Goodwin said.
