Apeel avocados are coming to Kroger, launching in 109 stores in the Cincinnati market.

Kroger plans to eventually carry the avocados in other cities as well, according to a news release.

Costco and Harps Food Stores have also been sourcing fruit treated by Apeel, which provides extended shelf life with a post-harvest solution it developed.

Photos that accompanied the release show avocado displays with signs that reads, “Ripe for days!” and “We stay fresher longer.” The sign also carries the logo for Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative.

“Apeel is an innovative partner that will help Kroger reduce food waste and redefine the customer experience through first-to-market technology,” vice president of produce Frank Romero said in the release. “Kroger’s relationship with Apeel developed as a result of the exciting work we’re doing with startups and enterprising companies to create the future of retail now.”

Apeel received $70 million in a recent funding round and plans to grow quickly to address demand for similar products to extend the shelf life of citrus, berries, stone fruit and asparagus.
