Instacart, Whole Foods ending relationship

Instacart, Whole Foods ending relationship

by Ashley Nickle, Dec 13, 2018

Instacart and Whole Foods Market, partners since 2014, have decided to go their separate ways.

The grocery delivery service announced in a blog post Dec. 13 that Instacart will be winding down its relationship with Whole Foods in the coming months.

The transition begins immediately, with Instacart scaling back in-store shopper operations at Whole Foods stores, Instacart CEO Apoorva Mehta wrote in the post.

More than 1,400 Instacart shoppers currently work across nearly 80 Whole Foods locations, and more than 240 will be affected starting in February by the dissolution of the Whole Foods-Instacart relationship.

The news comes about a year and a half after Whole Foods was purchased by Amazon, which has been amping up its delivery offerings for Whole Foods groceries through Prime Now.

More recently, Instacart cut its delivery fees by more than 30%, making its service more competitive against Amazon’s delivery option.
