Independent retailers can get a discount to join Eat Brighter! at NGA Show

National Grocers Association retail members can join the Eat Brighter! program at a discount Feb. 24-27 at the Produce Marketing Association pavilion at the NGA Show.

The program allows participants to use Sesame Street character images in stores to encourage kids 2-5 to eat more fresh produce.

“So many of our members are telling us that the Eat Brighter! program is working in their stores, including independent grocer Wayfield Foods in Atlanta,” Kathy Means, vice president of demand creation and consumer affairs for PMA, said in a news release. “They are finding a stronger interest for kids to want to go into the produce section of the store just by having the Sesame characters on the wall.”

PMA is offering Eat Brighter! participation to NGA members at the PMA member price of $950. Normally the one-time administration fee for non-PMA members is $3,500.

The cost for smaller grocers is much lower: $200 for retailers of 6-10 stores and $150 for retailers with 1-5 stores.

“We’re thrilled to be able to work with the Produce Marketing Association to bring the Eat Brighter! program to our retailer members at a significantly reduced cost so they can better serve their communities with more fresh and healthy produce while using the beloved Sesame Street characters that so many Americans know and love,” Peter Larkin, president and CEO of NGA, said in the release. “With Sesame Street celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, there will surely be a lot of buzz around the characters, making this a win-win for everyone.”
