H-E-B has opened a new e-commerce fulfillment center in Houston, a project that the retailer says further expands its commitment to integrate innovative technologies that drive omnichannel growth and provide a more convenient and better shopping experience for Texans.

The 100,000-square-foot stand-alone facility will support H-E-B curbside and home delivery orders throughout Houston and surrounding cities, according to a news release. Building on its long-standing presence in the area, H-E-B says the move reinforces its commitment to serve more customers in this rapidly growing part of the state.

To help support rising demand of online shopping, the e-commerce fulfillment centers stock goods found in stores, which are used to satisfy curbside and home delivery orders. These facilities allow for more capacity, greater efficiency and less aisle congestion for the in-store shopper, and better product availability, the company says.

To streamline orders and boost productivity, the facilities use various forms of automation to help partners throughout the order process. With these centers, H-E-B has grown supply chain capacity, which has improved and powered the expansion of its curbside and home delivery services, the release said.

Through its Spirit of Giving philosophy, H-E-B celebrated the facility’s grand opening by making a $5,000 gift to Energy Institute High School to support its robotics programming, the release said. The new facility marks H-E-B’s third e-commerce fulfillment center in Houston and ninth the company has opened in Texas since 2018. H-E-B says it will continue plans to open additional facilities across the state to help support the retailer’s expansion throughout Texas.
