San Francisco-based GrubMarket has added Parsemony, an Alameda, Calif.-based software service provider for fresh produce distributors, wholesalers, repackers and foodservice suppliers.

The company said this acquisition broadens its software service capabilities, including an expanded functionality of its existing portfolio of products, including GrubAssist and WholesaleWare.

Carl Mahon originally founded Parsemony as Vintrex in the late 1980; its signature software product was Profitsense, according to a news release. Current owner Colin Hare rebranded the company in 2017 as Parsemony, which provides enterprisewide software solutions and services designed to help customers manage all aspects of their fresh food businesses.

GrubMarket said key offerings from Parsemony include:

  • A cloud-based, POS solution accessed via handheld devices that makes it easy for food wholesale distributors to run inventory and order management workflows directly from within their warehouses.
  • Custom software engineering services focused on expanding the breadth of core ERP functionalities, such as building intuitive online ordering interfaces and streamlined integrations with third-party accounting and bookkeeping systems, such as QuickBooks.
  • Comprehensive IT services spanning network infrastructure setup, administration, general and specialized tech support, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data migration, hardware installation and maintenance, compliance consulting and more.

GrubMarket said Parsemony will continue to be led by its leadership team; existing Parsemony customers can add GrubMarket’s additional solutions, including WholesaleWare, GrubAssist (including AI Orders), Orders IO and GrubPay products.

"Parsemony has a sterling reputation amongst the fresh produce industry's software and technology ecosystem and also nicely complements GrubMarket's existing software products, including WholesaleWare, GrubAssist, and AI Orders,” GrubMarket CEO Mike Xu said in the release. “We're also thrilled to bring Colin's considerable expertise to GrubMarket, to support the continued evolution and growth of our best-in-class AI-powered software and eCommerce offerings for our customers. Colin understands what produce wholesalers need and how to speak their language, and he has a lot of experience working on multimillion-dollar contracts with some of the country's largest food retailers and organizations."
