The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that Grimmway Farms has initiated a voluntary recall of its bagged organic and whole baby carrots due to possible contamination with E. coli O121:H9.
The agencies said about 96% of the people who became sick reported eating carrots. As of now, there have been 39 reported illnesses in 18 states with 15 hospitalizations and one death.
The FDA said it identified Grimmway Farms as the supplier and is working to determine the source of contamination and whether additional products are involved.
