Domex Superfresh Growers, Yakima, Wash., is eager for retailers to stock plenty of granny smith apples for St. Patrick’s Day sales.
The variety is popular with consumers, maintaing its position as the No. 4 top-selling apple in the U.S., according to a news release. Gala, red delicious and fuji are the top three varieties, according to the U.S. Apple Association.
Granny smith apples are the most talked about apple on digital media and are most popular with millenials and Hispanics, who tend to prefer tarter apples, according to the Domex Superfresh Growers release.
The variety makes up 11% of apple category volume and dollars, and is No. 4 in both conventional and organic dollar share, according to the release.
Domex Superfresh Growers recommends large bulk displays to provide a splash of festive green in the produce department and in secondary displays.
