The Giant Co. has released its second annual report detailing its community improvement efforts through the sharing of resources, time and talent.

The 2022 Community Impact Report highlights the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives centered around a purpose of “connecting families for a better future,” according to a news release.

“Our impact report illustrates how our purpose of connecting families for a better future has come to life over the last year and is proof of the incredible impact we can have when we work together to create a better tomorrow for all,” John Ruane, interim president of The Giant Co., said in the release.

The report features six sections outlining the company’s work in 2022: Eliminating Hunger; Healing Our Planet; Changing Childrens’ Lives; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Wellbeing; and Nearby Farmers & Creators.

In its announcement, the Carlisle, Pa.-based company highlighted the following from the report:

  • Taking actionable steps to eliminate hunger, change children’s lives, heal the planet and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, The Giant Co. — together with its customers and supplier partners — provided in-kind and financial support valued at nearly $19 million to support over 300 community organizations connecting families for a better future.
  • Committed to making a difference together, employees logged more than 50,000 community volunteer hours, exceeding the company’s goal by almost 15,000 hours.
  • The Giant Co.’s registered dietitians helped cultivate healthy, balanced and affordable meal options, connecting with more than 55,000 customers through virtual wellness classes.
  • Building on its commitment to grow local economies, The Giant Co. partnered with more than 130 local vendor partners and 170 certified diverse-owned suppliers to deliver fresh, local and culturally appropriate foods to the families it serves.

“As a neighborhood grocery store, we have the unique opportunity to touch lives frequently, and we recognize the responsibility we have in helping families — no matter their circumstances — gather around the table to connect and enjoy a meal,” Jessica Groves, community impact manager for The Giant Co., said in the release. “The stories shared in our impact report highlight the passion of our team members and community partners to support all families and help to facilitate opportunities to create healthier people and a healthier planet one purposeful act at a time.”
