Fresh Express is recalling Caesar Supreme salad kits after a random test yielded a positive result for E. coli.
The company is stressing the recalled kits have an expired use-by date of Nov. 8 and that no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.
The 10.5-ounce Fresh Express Kit Caesar Supreme salads have Product Codes of S296 and a Universal Product Code of 0 7127930104 4 on the back of the package.
In its recall notice, Fresh Express reports the possible distribution area is Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The Caesar Supreme salad kit tested positive for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) 026. The release does not say what agency conducted the test, if the sample kit was pulled from a store shelf, or in what state the test was conducted.
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating three separate strains of E. coli, but none have been linked to romaine lettuce.
