FPFC honors Schroeder with retirement party

Roger Schroeder, who recently retired as vice president of produce at Stater Bros. Markets, was the man of the hour at a Fresh Produce & Floral Council dinner to celebrate his career.

Schroeder, three-time chairman of the FPFC, was recognized in 2011 as a Packer 25 honoree, was named Produce Retailer of the Year by The Packer’s Produce Retailer magazine in 2011, and was named Produce Marketer of the Year in 1994 by The Packer.

He was in the vice president’s position at Stater Bros. for two decades, but his career in the retail sector can be traced to 1960, as a part-time box-boy.

More than 250 people attended the Feb. 10 FPFC event recognizing Schroeder’s accomplishments, according to a news release. The organization gave him a lifetime membership to the council, and he’s an honorary past chairman representative of the board’s executive council.

The FPFC’s hosting committee that planned the event are Marty Craner of B&C Fresh Sales, Jan DeLyser of the California Avocado Commission, Dale Liefer of Pura Vida Farms and Dick Spezzano of Spezzano Consulting Service.
