S2G Ventures has hired organic grocery retail veteran Walter Robb as executive-in-residence.
In that role, Robb will mentor startups in which S2G has invested and help the organization identify new investments as well, according to a news release.
“Walter is a widely-respected and innovative leader, whose commitment to sustainable food systems helped transform the grocery and retail industries,” S2G managing director Sanjeev Krishnan said in the release. “We look forward to drawing on his expertise and insights to replicate that success across the entire food system.”
Apeel Sciences, Arable, Hazel Technologies and Shenandoah Growers are among the companies that have received funds from S2G, according to its website.
In November, S2G invested nearly 10 times as much as originally planned at an AgSharks competition hosted by Western Growers. The fund offered to provide $2 million to Hazel Technologies and also offered $250,000 to AgVoice, which allows industry members with hands-on roles to take notes by speaking rather than writing.
Robb will also continue to lead the investment company he founded, Stonewall Robb Advisors, which focuses on social justice and animal welfare.
“My career has been dedicated to bringing healthier, more sustainable food to more people, and trying to bring purpose and values to business,” Robb said in the release. “S2G invests in dynamic entrepreneurs who care about some of these very same issues. I look forward to collaborating with them to continue transforming our food system.”
