Firelake Discount Foods in Shawnee, Okla., built a Fuel Up to Play 60 display this week with 11,760 3-pound bags of apples.
The retailer used red delicious, granny smith and gala apples for the display, with the theme of helping moms feed their kids healthy options at a value price, said Mac Riggan, director of marketing for Chelan, Wash.-based Chelan Fresh, which was the apple supplier.
This isn't the first time Firelake has used a huge display to create excitement in-store and sell more apples; the store has done the same several times.
A few other massive collections of produce that have gotten attention in the last 12 months include the world's largest avocado display at Rouses Markets and the world's largest pineapple display at Schnuck Markets.
Rouses used 112,000 avocados to build its record-setting display in collaboration with Villita, Associated Wholesale Grocers and Avocados From Mexico, while Schnucks created its massive ode to pineapples with 19,650 pieces of fruit.
