Pittsburgh-based Fifth Season, a vertical, robotic farming company, expanded its distribution partnership with Giant Eagle Inc.
Starting Feb. 1, four stock-keeping units of Fifth Season’s leafy greens and ready-to-eat salads are available at more than 75 Giant Eagle and Market District locations across the Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; and Pittsburgh metro areas, according to a news release.
Previously, Fifth Season products were available at 10 Pittsburgh-area Giant Eagle and Market District locations, as well as select local independent grocers.
Under the expanded distribution agreement, the products are now available to more than 650,000 households in those three cities, according to the release.
“As one of the country’s largest and most successful grocers, Giant Eagle’s methodical approach to evaluating potential partners ensures they are always working with the best,” Austin Webb, Fifth Season’s cofounder and CEO, said in the release.
Fifth Season’s products at these locations include: Bridge City Blend, Three Rivers Blend, Crunchy Sesame and Sweet Grains.
Fifth Season’s newest vertical farm in Braddock, Pa., has a 25,000-square-foot grow room set to grow more than 500,000 pounds of produce in its first full year of operation.
