Donald D’Amour, CEO of Big Y Foods since 1980 and chairman since 1997, has stepped down from those roles and is now chairman emeritus and an advisor to the board of directors.
Succeeding him is Charles D’Amour, who has been president of the company since 2006. He will continue in that role as well, along with adding CEO responsibilities.
The company announced several other promotions, and Donald D’Amour expressed confidence in the leadership of the group.
“Our company continues to grow and evolve, and we are always developing opportunities to better serve our customers in the communities where we operate,” Donald D’Amour said in a news release. “Ushering in strategic change requires a dedicated group of professionals and leaders such as this team, which is at the vanguard of the most innovative thinking in our industry. I’m proud of this seasoned, well-respected team that is well poised to lead our company now and into the future.”
Michael D’Amour, who has been executive vice president since 2014, has added the role of chief operating officer. That position was previously held by new CEO Charles D’Amour.
In addition, vice president of fresh foods Guy McFarlane has been promoted to senior vice president of sales and marketing. McFarlane has been with Big Y for more than 20 years and in the supermarket industry for four decades.
In his new role, he will oversee sales and procurement, pricing, marketing and data analytics, according to the release.
Richard Bossie, vice president of operations since 2016, has been promoted to a new position for the company, senior vice president of operations and customer experience.
Nicole D’Amour Schneider, who has been with Big Y Foods since 1999, has been named to the new position of vice president of supermarket operations. In that role, she will focus on the daily operations of the supermarket division and have five district directors reporting to her, according to the release.
