Non-browning Arctic apple slices, grown primarily for the fresh-cut segment, are now available in convenience stores.
Okanagan Specialty Fruits, grower and marketer of the genetically engineered Arctic apples, is launching fresh-cut Arctic Granny and Arctic Golden apples in 10- and 5-ounce bags in convenience stores.
“In providing shoppers with Arctic apples, we’re offering a solution for those looking for a healthy option, without sacrificing freshness and flavor,” Bob Wilkinson, director of sales for Okanagan Specialty Fruits, said in a news release. “By partnering with Arctic apples, you’ll not only receive exceptional sliced apples, but also quality service from our dedicated team.”
The apples have been engineered to have a longer shelf life that retains its flavor, cutting food waste throughout the supply chain, according to the release.
The company is vertically integrated that manage the fruit from the tree to end-user. Okanagan Specialty Fruit has about 1,350 acres of the apple in Washington.
