When life gives you lemons … make better-tasting food and drinks! Remind your shoppers about the versatility of this citrus staple by merchandising it with complementary items in produce and beyond.

Lemons are an ideal item for secondary displays because they don’t require refrigeration and their vibrant color makes them naturally eye-catching.

As always, the goal is to provide meal inspiration for your customers, so attractive photos and recipes will be helpful, and there are endless directions to go when it comes to lemons.

They’re excellent with fish and chicken, so the seafood and meat departments are great fits for satellite displays. Of course lemons are popular in cocktails, so the liquor aisle is another opportunity.

Within the produce department, you can merchandise lemons with avocados and include a sign about how lemon juice is a “hack” for keeping the other half of the avocado fresh in the refrigerator.

Simple recipes that show how you can elevate artichokes and asparagus with lemon are additional options. Posting easy homemade salad dressing recipes by the lemon display is another tactic to try.

Having conversations with your counterparts in meat, seafood, liquor, bakery and grocery could spur more ideas – ask them about their favorite recipes with lemons. You never know what great cross-merchandising idea might come from a casual chat among colleagues!
