Pre-K through fifth grade children have the opportunity to learn the behind-the-scenes secrets at Weis Markets through the retailer’s new Weis Explorers program.
The Sunbury, Pa.-based company launched the 90-minute field trip program as an expansion of its overall educational offerings for all 204 stores, according to a new release. Students on the tours explore store departments, learning “the sights, sounds, scents, textures and flavors of a supermarket come to life to stimulate their senses and curiosity.”
“Weis Markets is committed to helping our customers make healthy choices, and educating the children in our communities about the importance of healthy habits is an important part of that,” said Weis Markets lifestyle initiatives manager Beth Stark, in a news release. “We’re excited to expand our field trip offerings to younger students with Weis Explorers, and we’re looking forward to educating students in areas with newly-acquired Weis stores.”
The company also offers an educational program aimed at older students, called Weis Mystery Tours, where second through fourth graders go on an adventure solving clues throughout the store to learn the benefits of healthful eating and being physically active.
