Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans celebrated its 21st year on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, claiming the No. 2 spot again this year.
The annual list, which is based on list put together by Great Places to Work, which measures companies on executive team effectiveness, innovation and people-focused programs. Scores are put together based on anonymous employee Trust Index Survey, along with company programs and practices measured through a “Culture Audit” assessment, according to Great Places to Work.
Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix also celebrated its 21st year on the list, coming in at No. 47.
Woodland, Calif.-based Nugget Markets also made the list, coming in at No. 70. This is the 13th time Nugget has appeared on the list.
While Publix and Wegmans celebrated their 21st straight years on the list, there was one other retailer that would have celebrated 21 years this year, but did not make the list.
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market, No. 58 in 2017, was omitted from the 2018 rankings.
Whole Foods has come under fire in the media since its acquisition by Seattle-based Amazon, with anonymous employees citing stressful working conditions, difficult new inventory management system “scorecards,” and rampant out-of-stocks.
