Produce-specific training includes pricing, culling and rotation.

Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says it plans to open 160 more employee training academies by mid-year.

This will bring the number of these academies up to 200, according to a news release. The training academies include a one-week overall retail training, followed by additional trainings in specific areas that last two to six weeks.

Produce department managers, for example spend a week in overall basics and another week in produce-specific training with topics including pricing, cleaning, culling and inventory, according to a Wal-Mart spokesperson.

The first of these training academies opened in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton in 2016.

Wal-Mart expects to send more than 225,000 employees through these academies by the end of 2017.
